but for open terrain or anti-infantry it would be more effective
Hi again,
I didn't mean for engaging a single terrorist in an urban environment like with Chisulim where you need pinpoint accuracy to minimize collateral damage or a guidedance system to hit a moving target like a car.
I was referring to attaking targets like a spread out guerilla squad in open terrain like was frequently done in Lebanon. The same goes for attacking infantry positions or formations in a conventional battle.
A TOW missle is very expensive and it's HEAT blast is not so effective for this role.
A reserve pilot I spoke with related how it once took him several TOWs to kill a single guerilla running and taking cover behind rocks
I assume that the Cobras were bought exclusively for the anti-armor role in the post-73 war period, but since then they have been used mostly against targets other than tanks. Abandoning the existing rocket capability seems shortsighted, don't you think.?
