The first website devoted to mobile phone virus news has been launched. The site aims to keep readers up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of phone viruses and provides a free alert service.
(PRWEB) November 4, 2004 -- For a long time mobile phone viruses have been the subject of hoax e-mails warning users that if they answered their phone when a certain number was displayed the phone would be destroyed! Such viruses have never existed, however, in June this year the first ever mobile phone virus was discovered.
The Cabir virus was a proof-of-concept virus designed to expose the potential risk to mobile users that viruses could pose. Technology experts around the globe believe that it is only a matter of time before a major outbreak occurs with the potential to inconvenience hundreds of thousands of phone users. The symptoms of an attack could be multiple - from sending undetected premium rate text messages, to total loss of the handset data.
A new website has been launched on the internet to keep phone users up to date with the latest developments .
www.mobilephonevirus.com is currently the only site on the internet to focus solely on the risks phone viruses can pose.
Founder, Sam Blakeman, said, “I read an article about the potential problems a virus could cause if it got into the mobile phone network. When I tried to find out more information I discovered that there was little available.” With that mobilephonevirus.com was created.
He added, “We aim to provide our visitors with the latest news and also offer a free alert service so users can be informed immediately of any outbreak, together with information on what they can do to protect themselves. Whilst the current risk is small, it’s only a matter of time before phone viruses become a real problem. We hope that by keeping people informed we can minimise the effect that any outbreak will have.”
