The Journal of Military Operations, otherwise known as
Military Operations, is an online peer-reviewed publication concerned with warfare, the conduct of war.
It focuses on engagement with the enemy; combat; fighting.
It seeks to develop insights into the nature of war, in order to better understand it and conduct it. It seeks to identify what changes in warfare and what doesn’t; why; and how.
Military Operations focuses primarily on the conduct of war on land, but also includes air-land and amphibious aspects.
It considers regular and irregular warfare. It will consider subjects as diverse as first hand-experience, doctrine, training and equipment, personnel, logistics and medical support. It will reflect historical, scientific and operations research. It is about how armed forces fight or should fight.

Military Operations’ articles aim to be informative, useful, and of the highest quality; either in the short term or long, either generally or specifically.
Military Operations is not a blog; any articles published will be thoughtful and well considered.
Military Operations will be free to the reader and presented in a clear, easy-to read format. Editions will be available to read online, or as specially designed and fully colored PDF downloads.
The members of
Military Operations’ Editorial Advisory Panel have hundreds of years of military experience, across many different conflicts. They have also undertaken many decades of research, writing and editing on warfare. Its members have written numerous books and hundreds of articles and papers. The panel contains soldiers and academics; paratroopers and Marines; tank and cavalrymen; gunners and sappers.
Military Operations does not have an agenda. We seek input from anybody with something useful to say on the conduct of future operations; we will publish contentious articles; and we want to expose all sides of an issue. So, if you have something important to contribute, send
Military Operations an article or write a letter to the Editor.
In particular, many of the editorial advisors had things to say when they were young, and we are keen to provide a voice for today’s younger generation.
Military Operations is keen to encourage younger, and junior, readers and writers. They are the future.
