Actually I agreed with ai and disagreed with you.
We should not look at Hamas only from the point of view of fighting Israel.
Hamas under Yasin had a leadership that could concentrate on several goals.
Making Hamas an center for palestinian society (schools, donations, healthcare and of course - religion).
Competing with Fatah.
Creating support outside of the occupied areas - among palestinians in refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan, the gulf states, and others.
Fighting Israel was only one of several goals.
Most of that is gone because that leadership is gone.
Hamas took over in 2007, and in nearly 10 years:
Got into several fights with Israel.
Lost many leaders and fighters.
Left Gaza in ruins, without money or working plans for rebuilding it
Lost almost all international support, and
Lost the tunnels to Sinai
I would call that a failure by any metric.
