TOKYO, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will make a four-day visit to Tokyo from Feb. 25, making the first visit to Japan by an Israeli premier in 11 years, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced Friday.
During his stay, Olmert will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Yasuo Fukuda and Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura to discuss the Middle East peace process and Japan's initiative dubbed the "Corridor for Peace and Prosperity" in the Jordan Valley, which runs through the Palestinian West Bank, Israel and Jordan.
Tokyo plans to create an agro-industrial park with modern distribution facilities in the West Bank as part of efforts to build confidence between Palestinians and Israelis.
The project is the first major Middle East initiative proposed by the Japanese government, which has been eager to play a role as a mediator in the Middle East peace process and to bring development and stability to the region.
The Israeli leader will also meet with Emperor Akihito. Olmert, accompanied by a group of executives from 30 Israeli firms, visited Japan in 2005 as deputy premier and trade minister. (end) mk.tg KUNA 081729 Feb 08NNNN
