There is so much to see and do on top of Mt. Washington, that this memorial may only be seen by those who search for it.
While I averaged the lat/long people stopped to see what it said. Later I watched as people walked by not noticing it at all.
Take pictures of yourself near the plaque, either close up or showing the surrounding area.
You can get here by car (Mt. Washington Auto Road), train (Mt. Washington Cog Railway) or walk. Do your research before you go to find all the other waymarks, geocaches and benchmarks on top of the highest point, east of the Mississippi River.
The plaque reads:
Dedicated by the New England Chapter of the 10th Mountain
Division in memory of comrades who gave their lives in the
Aleutians and Italy in WWII.
This elite division of alpine troops spearheaded the victorious
Fifth Army against the mountainous Gothic Line fortresses and
Across the Po Vally to shatter the German defenses in Northern Italy.
It was their love of New England Mountains, coupled with
their dedications of human freedom that inspired hundreds of
young New England Patriots to join the 10th Mountain Division.
Many returned to their beloved mountains. Those heroes who did
not return are still fondly remembered as Brave Men Whose souls
rest forever amid these mountain peaks-- Sempre Avanti
