בריטניה: איש דת מוסלמי מואשם בהסתה לרצח יהודים

איש הדת הקיצוני, אבו חמאס אל-מסרי, הואשם היום בבית משפט בבריטניה בכך שעודד את קהל מאמיניו להרוג יהודים ולא-מוסלמים.



אל-מסרי נמצא במעצר מאז שנת 2004, לאחר שהוכרז כמבוקש על ידי ארצות הברית באשמת תמיכה באל קאעידה.

שאלה היא האם גם הסתה להמשך העימות על מדינת ישראל נחשבת להסתה לרצח יהודים. אם כן, צריך להתעלם. אם לא, אז צריך לפעול בכל הכח נגד כל ח"כ שמפר את שבועת האמונים או הדבר הזה שהוא מתייחס אליו כממבו ג'מבו שהיה בכניסתו לתפקיד בכנסת.

British Islamist cleric on trial

LONDON - Hook-handed Islamist firebrand cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri is set to go on trial in London on charges of soliciting the murder of non-Muslims and other alleged crimes.

Hamza, former imam of Finsbury Park mosque in north London, faces 16 charges, including 10 of "soliciting to murder", before a jury at the Old Bailey, London's main criminal court.

He is charged also with using language aimed at stirring up racial hatred.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.

One of the 16 charges is under the Terrorism Act 2000 - which accuses him of possession of a document, "The Encyclopaedia of the Afghani Jihad", which contained information "of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".

Hook-handed and blind in one eye, Hamza has been held at high-security Belmarsh prison in southeast London since his arrest in May 2004.

His arrest signified a crackdown by Britain against alleged radical Muslims after years of perceived tolerance.

Hamza, thought to be in his late 40s, is wanted also in the United States on terrorism related charges, but he cannot be extradited before criminal proceedings in Britain are completed.

Hamza has become a hugely controversial figure for his sermons at north London's Finsbury Park mosque that allegedly called for jihad against Western interests and denounced the US-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The mosque was frequented by "shoe bomber" Richard Reid and Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged in the United States in connection with the September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001.

Hamza shot to national notoriety following alleged comments in support of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda after September 11.

Ahead of Monday's trial, Magnus Ranstrop, a terrorism expert at the Swedish National Defence College, noted however that it has yet to be established if there is any direct link between Hamza and Al-Qaeda.

Born in Alexandria to an Egyptian army officer, Hamza became a British citizen through marriage in 1981, two years after he came to the country to become a civil engineer.

In the late 1980s Hamza went to Afghanistan where he sustained injuries to an eye and both hands - one of which he replaced with a metal hook - while, according to the him, clearing Soviet landmines.

Hamza is also wanted for 11 charges in the United States, which concern the December 1998 abduction of Western tourists in Yemen by a group suspected of ties to Al-Qaeda.

He is also accused by Washington of having looked to install an Al-Qaeda training camp in the US state of Oregon from October 1999 to early 2000.

A magistrate in London approved on Thursday the extradition of Haroon Rashid Aswat, 31, to the United States in connection with the alleged training camp.

His lawyers immediately announced that they would appeal.
