The Muslim community in Thailand is angered with popular rapper Joey Boy's music, as one of his songs contains part of a verse from the Holy Koran. Operators of a website, > said they had examined the lyrics of the song, ''Choey'', after having received a number of complaints from outraged Muslims. They found that it used part of the holy verse in its introduction.
''Such an act, whether intentional or not, is an insult to the Holy Book, which prohibits the development of the verse into any kind of music,'' the website's operators said.
They said the Office of the Chularatchamontri is about to issue a complaint on behalf of the Muslim community, demanding an apology from the artist and his company.Meanwhile, Joey, whose real name is Abhisit Opasiemlikit, said in a telephone interview he had been shocked to learn of the outrage.
He said he had no idea the song, which was produced eight years ago when he was working under the now-defunct Bakery Music in an album ''Bangkok,'' had used any part of the Koran.
''Had I known, I would never have sung it. I am sorry,'' he said.
He said that he and the other people who had been involved in the production would apologise to the Muslim community and also immediately recall the album from the market.
