1) uninstall all nokia programs previously installed (cable drivers & pc suite 5.8) - reboot as neccessary until all uninstalled
2) use windows explorer to delete any nokia files/folders that uninstaller left behind (and it did!) - reboot
3) using 'regedit' (start -> run -> regedit -> enter) use the find option to search the word 'nokia' - it should come back with one line saying something like 'default: nokia' - right click and delete this entry - save and reboot
4) install the latest nokia cable drivers (use the link on this formum - the version is 1_36_1_eng) - don't change any files locations - reboot as required
5) plug in cable with phone connected and keyguard off
6) windows will plug & pray (sic) detect your phone - attempt a driver install (which will fail) - allow the add new hardware to give up on its own by clicking on cancel repeatedly (this may need 10 or so attempts - DO NOT disconnect the cable/phone to try and bypass this)
7) goto the control panel, open 'system' option, click on 'device manager' tab - you should see 2 or 3 yellow ?? marks; 2 called nokia 6320 one called usb composite device - ignore all these at the moment
8) below your yellow ?? marks you should see a section headed 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' - click on the + to expand this section.
9) in this section will be 2 or 3 subsections - click on the one titled 'Composite USB Device'. Click on the 'properties' tab for this section and you will probably find it is running on the generic windows driver (titled microsoft and some date from 1996 probably) - this is the option that needs to be runnind the nokia driver and not the generic driver - we must change this, so onwards to step 10....
10) click on the 'driver tab' at the top, and click on 'update driver' - the 'update device driver window' should appear. You now need to browse for the nokia device driver instead - by default you should find in in c
rogram files/nokia/connectivity cable driver - click on ok to install the new driver
11) hopefully now you will see all the drivers that windows needs (USB device, phone, modem etc) install - there about 10, some look the same but they are different so be patient
12) reboot! - but leave phone & cable connected (you may have seen a message confirming your phone is detected by now - I can't remember how early it happened!)
13) install nokia data suite 5.8 (the 28mb download one that works with 98 SE) not the 6.x version that nokia supply with the phone (to**ers) - reboot as required
14) hopefully after your last reboot you have drivers & data suite fully installed - the datesuite should auto detect the presence of your phone (which you can 'nickname' to you choice - keep it clean!) and away you go
