12/30/04 19:15 Update: Montgomery detained without bond
Lisa M. Montgomery, the 36-year-old Melvern, Kan., woman charged in a federal criminal complaint with kidnapping a female infant, resulting in the death of the infant's mother, will be detained in federal custody without bond until her trial. U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge John T. Maughmer granted the government's motion for pretrial detention at a hearing Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004.

Montgomery's initial appearance was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo. The court appointed the public defender's office to represent for the defendant.

Montgomery remains in federal custody at a detention facility in Leavenworth, Kan.
