AMESBURY A new insurance policy will offer vegetarians and fish-eaters a 6 per cent discount on its life assurance premiums. Animal Friends Insurance, a not-for-profit insurance business, yesterday announced the new life cover product intended for the estimated 3.5 million Britons who do not eat meat or intend to give up in the next 12 months.

The company believes that cheaper premiums can be offered to this group because medical evidence has shown that nonmeat eaters are less likely to suffer from serious illnesses, including cancers. The company says that the life assurance industry has not given adequate weighting to the benefits of vegetarianism.
