Tanker hijackers surrender to police

Hijackers have surrendered to the Malaysian police twelve hours after they took control of a tanker in the Malacca Strait. The marine police said about 10 armed pirates attacked the vessel before dawn off Langkawi Island. One of the crew members of the hijacked tanker escaped on a smaller boat and alerted the authorities, who managed to locate the ship. The standoff ended six hours after the police chased down the ship and surrounded it. The pirates surrendered after negotiations, and the vessel is being taken to Langkawi.
