אחרי הדיון בגרסת ה"ספקטר" של ההרקולס, התחלתי לחשוב - אילו עוד מטוסים צויידו בתותחי נ"ט, תותחי ארטילריה ותותחים גדולי-קוטר אחרים?

הידועים לי הם:

בי-25 מיטשל ממלחמת העולם השנייה, שכמה מהדגמים שלו צויידו בתותח 75 מ"מ בחרטומם שנטען ידנית, כנשק להטבעת ספינות.

הנשל 129 - מטוס נוסף ממלחמת העולם השנייה, שכמה מדגמיו שנועדו ללוחמת נ"ט צויידו בתותחי 37 מ"מ (שכמותם הורכבו גם בכמה מטוסי יונקרס 87) ואף בתותח 75 מ"מ של טנק פנצר 4 (!) עם טעינה אוטומטית. כמו כן, דגם זה או דגם אחר של אותה החברה צוייד גם במשהו שקראתי עליו פעם ושתואר כ"מרגמה רקטית" (??) בקוטר 77 מ"מ שירתה קליעי ח"ש ללא-רתע ישירות כלפי מטה, והופעלה אוטומטית ע"י תא פוטו-אלקטרי כל פעם שטנק עבר מתחת למטוס..

תיקונים ותוספות?

שני תותחי 40 מ"מ (בעיקר בזירת המדבר המערבי בצפון אפריקה).

אפשר גם להזכיר את הבל P-39 אירקוברה עם תותח 37 מ"מ שסופק גם לבריה"מ. אני לא יודע אם תותח זה שימש 'השראה' לתותחי ה-37 מ"מ שהופיעו מאוחר יותר במיג-15 ובמיג-17.

ומה עם הA 10 , לא נחשב?

בכל אופן אם בתותחים גדולי קוטר עסקינן אז אציין כי לפני זמן רב מאוד נתקלתי בשרטוט (אני ממש לא זוכר איפה אך אנסה למצא) של דגם מיוחד של מטוס ה"ברונקו" האמריקאי (שאגב גם היא מטוס יפה ) אשר הייתה כוונה לציידו בתול"ר אשר יינשא מתחת לגחונו !!!

מישהו שמע/ראה /מכיר?.....

In spite of this, we did, finally , get a feasibility test of the recoilless rifle on the OV-10. A standard, unmodified infantry type recoilless rifle was mounted on the centerline of an OV-10A. The OV-10 was then hoisted into the air by a crane and the rifle fired remotely. The gun fired appropriately, but the back-blast and shock wave from the unmodified nozzle slightly damaged the rudder trim tabs. I considered this quite a success considering the fact that a modified nozzle, like that suggested by Dr. Musser, together with the flight speed of the aircraft would take care of the problem on any production installation. Even without these obvious modifications, a slight beef-up of the trim tabs would have taken care of the problem.

Nonetheless, the damaged trim tabs were used as a basis for ending all further tests.

הניסויים נערכו ביוני 1974. התול"ר הוא בקליבר 106 מ"מ.

In '69, I left North American to join KP at China Lake where he headed a new group pushing advanced aircraft systems. Mixed in with a number of missile, weapon and aircraft projects we tried again to get the recoilless rifle airborne. At the time, Piper was pushing a modified P-51 for roles similar to the OV-10. Their "Enforcer" modification had a much more powerful (and lighter) turboprop engine, lots of armor and impressive speed and maneuverability. A retired Air Force colonel who knew KP was heading the project and had also become a believer in the recoilless rifle. It was through this program that we finally got a recoilless rifle fired from an aircraft.

In the event, an Army P-51, supported for maintenance and parts by the Air Force, was flown from a naval base (China Lake) by a Marine pilot for the demonstration. The recoilless rifles were unmodified infantry weapons and were mounted on the wingtips to obviate any problems with back-blast. The test went off rather well, and, although not a test of accuracy, the pilot, Maj. Pippa, reported that the rounds went right where they were pointed.

Unfortunately, the people selling the Enforcer not only bucked Air Force policy, they also infuriated some of the top brass with their sales tactics. This resulted in letters from the Chief of Staff, USAF to the Chief of Naval Operations and then down the chain of command to the CO of the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, to the effect that no more tests, or even mention of this aircraft would be tolerated. That was the end of the Enforcer.

ואגב בעניין ה"מוסטנג" - האם אי שם בתחילת שנות השמונים היה רעיון להחזיר את המטוסים הללו לשירות מבצעי כמטוסי סיוע קרוב/תקיפה לאחר סדרת שדרוגים?...

פרויקט מעניין של חהא"א היה התקנת צריח אמרסון ובו תותח וולקן סטנדרטי ותוף תחמושת גדול בתא הפצצות של מפציץ B-57G Tropical Moon, כאשר הצריח היה משועבד לכוונת התרמית של המטוס לטובת תקיפת מטרות בלילה (למשל תנועת משאיות לאורך נתיב הו צ'י מין). השילוב של מטוס סילון מהיר יחסית, כוונת מתקדמת, צריח מסתובב וצוות קטן איפשרו תקיפה מהירה יחסית מכיוונים שונים וסיכוי השרדות משופרים בהשוואה ל GUNSHIP רגילים כמו ה AC-47, AC-119 וה AC-130 איטיים ועתירי צוותים, שטסו במסלול מעגלי צפוי. הפרויקט נוסה בהצלחה בבסיס רייט פטרסון אך לא מובצע עקב הוצאת מפציצי ה B-57 מהזירה בראשית 1972 במסגרת נסיגתם ההדרגתית של כוחות ארה"ב מדרום ויאטנם.
