Let me tell you a nice story...

Once, there was an aircraft manufacturer in the country USASSR, called Tupoeing. They have an aircraft which is already in service, called F/A-22 Blindnet. But then, the Voeyenno-Vozduchnogo United States Navy wants a new aircraft type to replace or at least supplement this Blindnet. But, unfortunately, the beancounters in the Kremlnagon and the Politwhitehouse don't want to spend the money on it - in fact, they have thrown away some very good designs which could have easily supplemented the Blindnet because they were too expensive and because they rather spent money on anti-anti-ballistic missile programs.
Now, the fellers at Tupoeing and the VVUSN were a smart bunch. They had a nice sit-together drinking lots of vodka at the ranch of one of the senior officials, and came up with a smart idea. "What if we would design a whole new aircraft but give it an old name? That way, those beancounters at the Politwhitehouse and Kremlnagon won't be knowing they will be paying for a completely new aircraft with no commonality whatsoever with that piece of junk we're using now!"
And so, a design was put forward. The Kremlnagon did finally realise that it would need at least something, and a new aircraft based on an old design did sound nice. So, when Tupoeing put forward their design of the F/A-22M2 Super Horfire, they agreed and gladly accepted it into service.
This did cause a bit of diplomatic trouble though. Because when the USASSR entered into disarmament talks with it's archrival, the Union of Capitalist Soviet Monarchies, the UCSM refused to believe that the F/A-22M-2 was REALLY that short legged, and by no means a strategic aircraft!
But that's outside of the scope of this story, i might tell you this another time....

The Super Horfire? I dated one of those once. But that also is another story.
