בשנים האחרונות , צבא ארה''ב עובר ליותר שימוש במקלעים הבלגיים, המאג(M240 ) והM249 SAW , מישהו יודע אולי למה ?. הם עוזבים את הM60 ששירת במלחמת ויטנאם , האם לM60 היו חסרונות ? , כי הM60 הגירסה המוקצרת הוא קטלני ?

בגלל שהוא פשוט מקלע נחות לעומת המקלעים הבלגים או הגרמנים או הרוסים.

הפירוק של הM60 הוא מסובך, בשביל להחליף קנה אתה צריך לפרק חצי מהמכונה.
אמינות המקלע היתה נמוכה והבלאי גבוה. בגרסאות הממוכנות הוא היה בעייתי פי כמה כי מסתבר שהמקלע היה רגיש אפילו יותר לאבק מאשר ללחות

האמריקאים קיבלו 2 החלטות- אחת היא מעבר למקלע מחלקתי בקליבר קטן יותר היינו ה-SAW.

ההחלטה השניה היתה להוציא את ה-M60 ולהחליף אותו בפלטפורמות ממונעות או רגליות במאג.

לשני המקלעים הללו יש פסי ייצור בארה"ב.

מסיבה שעד היום לא ירדתי לעומקה, הגרסה האחרונה של הכלי - M60E4 - נמצאת בשימוש יחידת SEAL של צי ארה"ב. דוגמאות לפניך:

הכוונה הייתה כמובן לעימות עם סוריה.

אתה צודק מאוד, אין ספק. אבל בדיוק מהסיבה הזאת לא הרוב המוחלט של הלוחמים הם מא"גיסטים, אלא אנשים ספציפיים מאוד.

זה החיסרון הגדול של המאג. למקלע יש חשיבות גדולה מאוד מבחינת כוח האש שהוא מאפשר לכיתה/מחלקה. אם רק שניים-שלושה מסוגלים לסחוב אותו, הרי שאחרי הנפגע הראשון, העסק הולך לאיבוד. זה היתרון של המקלע הקל.

From my reading, I understood that the M60 was generaly considered relatively complicated to maintain and had delicate internal parts. It had several inherent flaws such as the bipods being attached to the removable barrel rather than to the gas cylinder like on the MAG and the carrying handle was attached to the body. This meant a second person had to hold the body up in order to change a hot barrel using asbestos gloves. The rear sight was zeroed rather than the front sight on the barrel so if you switched barrels you lost zero. Plus if you slammed the top cover shut while the michlol was forward you could break it..

The later M60E3 version which looks like the one shown here was an attempt to improve it and make it easier to carry. To make it lighter the barrel was lightened and shortened however this mad the gun even less reliable and required a barrel change every 100 rounds fired

The ironic thing is that the M60 was designed in the 1950s based on many feature of the WW2 German MG42 that the Americans were so impressed with. Meanwhile the MAG58 was developed at the same time by the Belgians based on the mechanism of the American M1918 Browning BAR. Since then the MAG has become the most popular 7.62 MG in the Western world.

About 30 years after adopting the M60, the American realize that they made a mistake and replace the M60 with the MAG. Of course they won't admit that they were wrong so they add a few needless accessories and call it the new M240

תמיד עניין אותי איך ה M60 לא הפך למקלע התקני בצה"ל אחרי יום כיפור כמו ה M16 או ה M113, האמריקאים לא ניסו לדחוף אותו?
ומה בקשר לנגב גולני2 אמר שאי אפשר לסמוך עליו, בתור שריונר לא יצא לי להשתמש בו אבל גם למאג יש המון מעצורים ומחיניקים ששירתו איתי בלבנון לא שמעתי טענות בקשר לנגב.
ואם הנגב כלכך לא אמין למה לא הלכו על המינימי שגם נבדק בתקופה שהנגב שכנס לשימוש?

את המינימי לא הטמיעו נכון בצבא.

מנסיוני האישי, המאג הוא נשק מאוד אמין לשימוש חי"ר. הנגב קצת פחות אמין, וחלק מזה הוא תוצאה של תחמושת עדינה יותר (5.56), אבל שוב, אני מאוד מרוצה מהנגב. רוב הבעיות שניתקלתי בהן (כמפקד מול חיילים), היו של כלים מכוסחים בבא"חים ושל מיומנות נמוכה.
