Lebanese Ambassador to the UN Nawwaf Salam warned against “indications of Israeli preparations for a wide-range attack on Lebanon.”

Salam said he sent two letters to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and to the Security Council condemning the Israeli artillery fire on the village of Houla and said it is a “clear violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.” He also said it is a part of a planned escalation that includes implanting espionage devices in South Lebanon.

Salam added that the “pattern of Israeli breaches” constitutes a serious source of threat to Lebanon, and that the increased “escalation in a fragile and explosive situation” signals Israeli plans of an imminent attack.

Salam also said that Israel’s immediate retaliation following every rocket launch from Lebanon obstructs investigations of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and UNIFIL into the launch.
