President Donald Trump continues to shock the media -- this time in incredibly positive ways. Tuesday night his speech to a joint session of Congress caused many in the media to sing his praises describing it as “extraordinary” and “presidential.”

The most amazing moment of the night came when Trump honored Carryn Owens, the widow of slain Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens. Her reaction will be the lasting image of the speech as she put her hands together and looked to heaven, crying. It’s a picture that should be on every newspaper front page Wednesday. The bipartisan applause went on and on, with Trump finally noting, off script, “And Ryan is looking down right now, you know that, and he is very happy because I think he just broke a record.”

It was heart-wrenching.

That moment resonated across party lines. CNN replayed the entire clip with its epic applause for the family and the fallen hero. Anchor Anderson Cooper called it a “truly extraordinary moment.” Even CNN commentator and massive Trump opponent Van Jones was moved. “He became president of the United States in that moment. Period,” said a somber and serious Jones. “That was one of the most extraordinary moments you have ever seen in American politics. Period,” he added.

Longtime critic New York Times White House correspondent Glenn Thrush gave the speech reluctant credit: “‏For any other president this would be a boring, laundry list speech. For Trump - amazing, responsible, detailed, uniting, presidential!”

That was a common reaction for most outlets not called The Washington Post.

Time Washington bureau chief Michael Scherer gave it similar praise. “This speech is the best sign yet that Donald Trump can learn how to use the power of his office.”

The Washington Post was having none of it. Its staff comments read more like The Huffington Post, with several prominent writers attacking Trump and his speech. Post editorial writer Jackson Diehl called the immigration section a “xenophobic rant." National political reporter Robert Costa continued the negative theme. “That's what makes the speech somewhat jarring. A bleak, populist Bannon vision laced with elements of Ivanka-ism on social policy.”

It was perhaps the clearest sign yet that after 40 days in the West Wing, the President is beginning to come to grips with the public responsibilities of the office.
Trump opened with a perfunctory nod to Black History Month and an overdue condemnation of a rash of recent hate crimes. He spoke about reforming the nation’s immigration laws and ramping up space exploration. He cheered Democrats by calling for investments in infrastructure and paid family leave. At a moment when his legislative agenda is sputtering in a Congress controlled by his own party, he rallied wary allies by laying out a plan for economic revival.
Gone, for the most part, were the braggadocio and the bluster, the unscripted asides and off-message score-settling. The man who began his presidency picking fights over crowd size uttered lines like "the time for trivial fights is behind us.” Trump hewed closely to his prepared text, which he was spotted practicing in his armored limousine on the drive to the Capitol.

ישנם אנשים שיקשיבו לנאום. יש מי שיקשיב לפוקס ויגיד לעצמו זה לא זה, זה משצע כמו מקהלת שוטים, ויעבור מיד לערוצים אחרים להבין מה קורה.
בערוצים אחרים הוא ילמד שהיו בנאום דברים כאלה ואחרים. יש בנאום הבטחות אופטימיות, כמו למשל בעיניני הגירה, וכל שיידרש זה להמתין לביצוען.
יש בנאום סתירות וחוסר בהירות שמן הסתם המאזין ימתין לפעולות עצמן, למשל בענין בטוח הבריאות. הדבר החשוב והגדול שאובמה עשה היה לחייב את חברות הבטוח מלהתחשב בתנאים המוקדמים של המבוטח. רק לצורך הדוגמא שיש לה מיליוני של וריאציות ואנשים מושפעים: בחור עבד ובוטח במסגרת החברה. במהלך עבודתו אישתו חלתה. לימים הבחור פוטר ואיבד את הביטוח הרפואי של החברה ולא יכול היה לקבל בטוח שיכסה את מחלת אישתו. דברים כאלה בארה"ב יכולים לפרק חיים של אדם משום ששבוע אישפוז עם פרוצדורות מסוימות יכול להגיע בקלות למאות אלפי דולרים.
ההבטחה בנושא התנאים המוקדמים בנאום היתה דו משמעית וגורמת חוסר נוחות לרבים. כנ"ל זכותו של כל אדם לקבל בטוח שבהישג ידו.
מעבר לתיקונים טכניים כאלה ואחרים, השאלה שמטרידה את האזרח האם טראמפ ישאיר את החלקים המהותיים שהיו ברפורמה. כולם מקווים שישנה את הקטעים הטכניים, לרבות הכנסת התרופות לתחרות, שישנה את השם לטראמפ קר אבל שישאיר את הדברים המהותיים.
