Sir Sean's prize independence plea
Nationalists have welcomed comments from Hollywood star Sir Sean Connery about his dream of an independent Scotland.
Sir Sean, 75, who grew from humble beginnings as a milkboy in Edinburgh was speaking as he was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the European Film Awards in Berlin.
Using his acceptance speech as a political platform, Sir Sean told delegates he he wished he could be accepting the prize as if "Scotland was independent and had a voice in Europe, so you're stuck with me for the moment".
Sir Sean then invited everyone present to Scotland for the 50th Edinburgh Film Festival.
"Just ask for me and you'll get a good seat," he joked.
The Scottish National Party welcomed the veteran actor's comments.
A spokesperson for the party said: "The SNP are very proud to have the support of Sir Sean.
"We congratulate him on this prestigious honour."
He accepted the award from Jean-Jacques Annaud, who directed him in The Name Of The Rose.
