Croatia permits creation of Islamic political party
SARAJEVO, Jan 11 (KUNA) -- Head of the Moslem minority in Croatia, Samsudin Tankovic, announced Tuesday that the Croatian authorities have permitted the creation of an Islamic political party, in a step that aims at refreshing civic and political rights for Moslems there.
He told KUNA that several social and cultural societies and firms affiliated to the Moslem society in Croatia have decided to join forces under one political party that is called the SABAH party.
Tankovic, also a representative of the Arab and Islamic societies at the Croatian parliament, said the political party will work to defend the rights of such societies and bolster ties with similar groups in other countries.
The SABAH party's founding committee has elected Mohamed Dzekic, a Moslem Croatian businessman as chairman.
The SABAH party leaders would start off their activities with traveling to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia to perform pilgrimage (hajj), Tankovic added. (end) yr.
