mphenterprises - this sounds like he's a new Vista user. From the Window button (it used to say start in XP, now its just the Vista Logo), at the bottom of the start menu box are three buttons, the first having the I interleafed with the O which we find on some power buttons. This in fact does NOT turn of the machine, it just puts it to sleep. After about 15 minutes of inactivity, it will then go into standby. The sleep mode is like XP when after a period of inactivity, it has just gone to a light sleep where the slightest move of the mouse, and it pops back up. I like it.
The second button is a padlock which locks the system. This is found on XP Pro and Win2K when installed in a domain. It takes an authorized password to open the machine back up, and then if its not the logged on user, it of course goes to the new users settings.
The third button is a little triangular arrow to the right. Clicking on this opens another dialog box with the following choices: 1) Switch User 2) Log Off 3) Lock 4) Restart 5) Sleep and 6) Shut Down
