"It is the System Restore folder, where the System Restore and StateManager backup files so you can do system recovery. When virus infect files, StateManager tries to get rid of them and in the process saves the infected file in a safe place, the System Restore folder. If you had ever bothered to read the virus removal instructions on all of the Anti-Virus web sites, you would know that with Windows ME and XP, that you need to Disable System Restore while removing virus. Of course this removes all of your system restore checkpoints.
And if you try to manually delete files in this folder, you will find it well protected by Windows to prevent you from doing so, as it will corrupt your system restore function and cause problems."
