Finn Tveten & Co - Modell Sea Dog

History:

This flare gun was designed in 1946 by Finn Tveten & Co, Oslo. It was designed to be simple, cheap, reliable and small enough to be placed in life boats and rafts.

The barrel was made of plain non-blued steel. The handle was made of polished wood and parts of the mechanism was made of brass. One specimen is known to have a brass barrel, but this is considered to be a prototype.

The gun is opened by pressing the two knobs which releases the barrel. The empty cartridge will remain attached to the handle and can easily be removed by pulling it forwards. A new cartridge may be insterted and the barrel pressed back between the two knobs. The gun is fired by pulling the ring at the bottom of the handle. The gun is delivered in a brown cardboard box also containing a users manual. The text "Sea Dog, Finn Tveten & Co, Oslo" and "Godkjent av Sjøfartskontoret" is stamped on top of it with green ink color.

The gun is chambered for the caliber 4 flare cartridge, but will also accept the Norwegian 28 mm cartridge.
