This router lets you forward a range of external ports to a single internal port. For most applications it would be better to forward those ports one at a time. I'll discus how this router forwards a range of ports, after I give the walkthrough of how to forward a single port.
First off you need to know which ports you need to forward. If you are unsure of the port range/ranges check the Ports list page or the software manufacture's homepage. Enter the port to forward into Public Port-Start, Public Port-End, and Private Port boxes. Select the protocol type using the Port Type radio buttons. If you need both protocol types, create a second configuration with the other protocol selected. Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the Host IP Address box. Enter a ID number that is not shown above into the ID box. We want to pick a number that is not shown because we do not want to overwrite an existing configuration. Click the Add this Setting button to add the configuration to the table above.
I'm going to talk about the different kinds of port boxes for a bit.
First off, let me explain that there are public ports and private ports. The public ports are the ports that are part of the external ip address. These are the ports that everyone on the internet can "see". These are the ports on which data is sent to your router from the internet. Then there are private ports. These are the ports that are internal to your local area network. The belong to whatever internal ip address you assign. These are the ports that are used to send data from your router to your computer. When port forwarding is setup, your router takes data off of the public ports and puts that data on the private ports you specified.
This router has three boxes to put in port information the Public Port-Start, Public Port-End, and the Private Port box. The two public port boxes allow you to specify a range of ports. These define which ports to get the data from. There is only one private port box. This private port box specifies where to put the data. Take note this private port box specifies a port to send ALL the data from the range of ports. Okay that was probably a little confusing. Let me give you an example. Lets say you entered the following into the boxes:
Public Port-Start=20
Public Port-End=25
Private Port=51
Where are the ports forwarding to? All of the public ports forward to one private port.
Public Port 20 forwards to private 51.
Public Port 21 forwards to private 51.
Public Port 22 forwards to private 51.
Public Port 23 forwards to private 51.
Public Port 24 forwards to private 51.
Public Port 25 forwards to private 51.
