Israeli AG indict this morning Omri Sharon on campaign fraud charges
The prime minister's son, MK Omri Sharon, indictment for flouting campaign finance laws, forging corporate documents, perjury and breach of trust, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz announced in 26/7/05.
In what has been dubbed "the straw companies affair," MK Sharon is alleged to have committed the offenses first during his father Ariel Sharon's campaign for the Likud Party leadership, and later when Ariel Sharon ran for prime minister.
If convicted, Omri Sharon could be jailed for up to five years. Mazuz advised Knesset Speaker MK Reuven Rivlin, Knesset House Committee chairman MK Roni Bar-On, and MK Sharon himself of the decision.
